HISTORY

2002

THE BEGINNING

The shopping centre Olympia was built in 2002 in Ķipsala. Initially, Olympia opens its doors to visitors as Rimi hypermarket, while already in 2003 Olympia becomes one of the first modern shopping centres in Riga and opens several recognizable retail stores - Bik Bok, Cubus, Sportland, Seppala, Timari and Reserved. The total area for rent of the shopping centre is more than 20,000 m2, which includes 70 stores and service providers. In 2005, the ownership of Olympia was taken over by the real estate investment fund Laurus S. A r.l..

2009

CHANGE OF NAME AND CONCEPT

In 2009, the Latvian market was shaken by a severe economic crisis. This turbulent period forces several large retail companies to make a difficult decision to leave the Latvian market, the Olympia shopping centre. Buyers' habits and ability to pay are also rapidly changing, which prompts them to change the existing concept of Olympia to the first outlet shopping centre concept in Latvia, predicting great potential for it due to its location and easy accessibility. At the end of 2009, the shopping centre gets a new name Olimpia, at the same time starting to change the concept to an outlet shopping centre for sports and recreation.

2015

THE NEW OWNER OF THE SHOPPING CENTER

In 2015, the first Sports Direct store in Latvia was opened in the Olimpia shopping centre, marking the first successful step towards the outlet concept. In 2020, the company Laurus S. à r.l. managed by Partners Group Holding AG and Northern Horizon Capital sells the shopping centre Olimpia to Lithuanian real estate and renewable energy investment company Grinvest. The new owner starts the renovation of the shopping centre already in 2020 with the aim of transforming Olimpia into a modern outlet shopping centre for sports and recreation.

2023

SHOPPING CENTER RENOVATION

In May 2023, the renovation project of the Olimpia shopping centre was completed, turning Olimpia into a modern and competitive shopping centre with a unique sports and active lifestyle outlet. 8 million euros were allocated for the renovation of Olimpia, of which 1.8 million euros were allocated to implement energy-efficient building management solutions, including the construction of a solar power plant, LED lighting, the installation of electric car charging points and the reconstruction of the roof.

SUSTAINABILITY

IN “OLIMPIA”, THERE IS THE LARGEST SOLAR PANEL PARK ON THE ROOF OF A SHOPPING CENTER IN LATVIA

1820 solar panels are installed on the roof at the area of 4059 square meters. It is planned that the solar park will be able to produce up to 696.230 kWh of green electricity annually. The energy produced will be used to meet the needs of the shopping centre and the technical operation of the building.

“OLIMPIA” WILL REDUCE CO2 EMISSIONS BY 86.46 TONS

Along with the installation of solar panels and the use of the obtained energy, the shopping centre saves almost 100 tons of CO2.

ENERGY EFFICIENCY OF “OLIMPIA” IS BEING OPTIMIZED

The roof repairs have reduced the heating factor of the building, as well as a film applied to all the roof glasses reduces overhead light by 80% and air-cooling costs in the hot summer months.

LED LIGHTING IMPLEMENTED IN “OLIMPIA”

In order to minimize the consumption of electricity in all premises, including the parking, LED lighting has been introduced, the expected reduction of primary energy per year would reach 286.95 MWh, reducing 12.51 tons of CO2 emissions.

ELECTRIC CAR CHARGING STATIONS IN “OLIMPIA”

4 electric car charging stations are available in the territory of the shopping centre.

“OLIMPIA” INVITES TO BE MORE NATURE-FRIENDLY

Thinking about a person's individual impact on the environment, the shopping centre has the opportunity to sort waste, conveniently drive up and park the bike.
